Hunter Wellies: A British Fashion Icon

By Jane Little

Hunter are famous for their instantly recognisable, high-quality clothing and footwear. However, during the last few years the Hunter brand has gone from strength to strength and they now enjoy worldwide success. It is the iconic green Hunter wellies that have become Hunter's trademark product and thanks to their unparalleled fit, comfort and quality have become a must-have item for anyone who appreciates the great outdoors.

Hunter wellies were once just the preserve of the royal family, farmers and gamekeepers but these days they are worn everywhere from a commute to work on a wet day to a stroll around the shops. In the last few years there has been a massive increase in the demand for high-quality country wear and footwear with outdoor enthusiasts keen to find the best possible kit to keep them warm and dry.

Rock festivals have helped to confirm the fashion credentials of Hunter wellies. Festival goers are now keen to look as stylish as possible whilst keeping dry and clean so Hunter wellies are proving the perfect choice when wading through the ankle deep mud that is often associated with British festivals. Fashion icon Kate Moss gave Hunter a huge boost when she was photographed a couple of years ago at Glastonbury walking through mud in her Hunters with the result that Hunter wellies became cool overnight.

The range of Hunter wellies has grown and developed over the years and Hunter now manufacture boots that will keep the wearer warm and dry even in very low temperatures. As experts in outdoor clothing, Hunter are well aware that for those who spend a lot of time outdoors, the best possible footwear isn't optional, it's essential. Hunter's welly range includes hard-wearing boots that not only keep feet warm and dry, they also offer excellent grip in slippery conditions.

The range of Hunter wellies consists of the iconic Hunter Originals, Hunter Balmoral and Hunter Snow wellies. It's the Originals that most people recognise, Hunter Balmoral wellies are chunkier to look at with a more robust image and the Snow wellies, one of the newest designs in the range, have an extra thick lining and sole for warmth and grip. The latest addition to Hunter's range of wellies is the Original Brit. Offering a great opportunity for Hunter fans to show how patriotic they are, the Original Brit wellies have a Union Jack design on the front.

Hunter have also expanded their collection of Hunter wellies to include leather boots. These have become incredibly popular and are a superb option for those who want a comfortable boot that also looks smart and stylish enough to wear in town. The Hunter Hawksworth Leather boot provides a winning combination of soft leather, a waterproof lining and tough leather sole for exceptional grip. At the top end of the Hunter range is the stylish Balmoral Westerly boot; created from luxury leather but with a high technical specification it's certain to become a design classic.

Hunter have continued to broaden their range and last year launched a range of outdoor clothing for men, women and children that is proving to be very successful. Hunter clothing is made to a very high standard as you'd expect from the Hunter brand. Hunter's clothing range includes stylish quilted coats, waterproof jackets made from super-lightweight fabrics, rain macs and a waterproof poncho designed for wearing at festivals!

Now a global favourite amongst those who love the great outdoors, Hunter continue to go from strength to strength. Likely to be a leader in the luxury country clothing market for some time to come, their products are sure to remain much-loved classics.
