Bonefishing Key West: Common Methods

Many people like eating bonefish. These fish are found habiting mainly flats or shallow water. There are several methods of fishing. When it come bonefishing Key West fishermen has five methods to choose from.

In shallow water that is not too muddy, one can employ wading method. Here, one wades into the water and then remains quiet. He or she will then wait for the bonefish to make muds. He or she will then direct his fly to that area so that it can attract the fish.

For a fisherman with a boat, he can use boat poling method on the flat. Once on board the boat, one allows the boat to move along the current. In this way, he or she will be able to come across several bone fish. Moving with water current allows one to be stealth and also easily control the boat.

Like most fish, bonefish tend to follow regular routes on any flat they habit. A fisherman can study this pattern and establish the route that the fish uses. He or she will then show up at that point at a time earlier than the time the fish follow it and wait for them. However, tides or season can cause a change to the trail. This method is called staking out.

Like most wild animal, bone fish also employs its sense of smell when hunting for its food. This is especially important when in dirty water where visibility is greatly reduced. Fishermen utilize this when fishing using the chumming method. They cut shrimps into several small pieces and then scatter them in water. Bonefish will then smell them out.

In shallow flats or waters, one can also employ the rod and line method. With this method of bonefishing key west resident must be aware of the bait that bonefish loves most. With the correct bait, one will not have to struggle much to catch the fish.
